The Finnish Artisan Food Association (Suomen Artesaaniruoka ry) promotes the recognition and appreciation of artisan food in Finland
The association was founded to develop and advance the awareness of artisan food throughout Finland
We use the definition of artisan food established by Eldrimner in Sweden over 20 years ago. This definition has served as a foundation for defining artisan food in Finland and potentially across the Nordic countries:
An artisan food product is a high-quality food with rich flavor. It is a product made by hand from start to finish using domestic ingredients, created through the producer’s skill and passion. Artisan food producers know their ingredients inside out – often they grow, raise, or source everything locally. This ensures the quality of the ingredients. Artisan food highlights culinary traditions, develops these traditions, and creates innovative products.
The Six-Fingered Hand Logo
Our logo can be interpreted in several ways:
One interpretation sees each "finger" representing a human sense – touch, hearing, sight, taste, smell, and the perception of hot and cold – with the sixth finger symbolizing creativity and innovation.
Another interpretation associates the five fingers with basic flavors, while the sixth finger brings innovation into the mix.
A third interpretation represents the main categories of artisan food: dairy, meat, fish, grains, and berry, fruit & mushroom products – with the sixth finger again symbolizing innovation.
Board of Directors 2025
The board is elected at the annual general meeting each spring for a one-year term. The executive director was elected as secretary for the 2025 term, and Eija Lamsijärvi was elected as treasurer.
